DOUG RILEY: Stride

Doug Riley
Tyler Yarema
John Roby
Stride is a piano style that originated in the early 20th century: George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Errol Garner, Art Tatum, Duke Ellington and Count Basie are just some of the pianists who either played stride or were influenced by it. Doug Riley along with Tyler Yarema and John Roby, three of the best stride piano players in the country join together to create the stunning new CD “Stride”. Doug Riley is a recipient of the Order Of Canada and is known as one of the most accomplished players in North America. The album has been receiving regular airplay on Toronto’s JazzFM as well as great reviews. “This is pure, lively pleasure from start to finish” (Geoff Chapman, The Toronto Sun, Sept 15,2005). The 19 songs featured on “Stride" include solo, duo and astounding trio performances by Doug, Tyler and John, with a special bonus track featuring Marshmellow Records own Jackie Richardson on vocals.

"Canadian pianist Riley has approached his instrument from just about every angle. Stride," a spirited and authentic redux of the
lilting jazz-piano style."

"With piano guru Doug Riley’s “Stride”, the art form pioneered by Fats Waller, James Johnson, and Willie ‘the Lion’ Smith is
authentically represented and is mercifully devoid of any trendy neo-swing hype of recent years."
