For years we had talked about he importing Bobby Hackett from New York for out annual Dixieland Jubilee here in Los Angeles. It finally came to pass when he flew out here for the 8th Annual Jubilee in October 1955.

Bobby had become famous with his tremendous sweet romantic sounds on Jackie Gleason albums – but we were confident that the devout Dixie fans knew him to be the one of the greats of traditional jazz as well

We invited Bobby to personally select everyone of the musicians he would play with. The result was remarkable. Playing the finale of this world-famous event before 7,000 faithful seemed to inspire every one of the rare moments in jazz that will be talked about for years.

Dave Cavanaugh, Capitol producer, who led his own band some years ago at one of the Jubilees, got the message immediately and set up this album. We are thrilled with it and we’re sure you will be too.
